Khy by Kylie Jenner (yes, yet another Kardasian-Jenner brand), launched on October 24.  We asked McGillians about their thoughts on Khy on Circle of Fashion’s (COF)  internal Instagram story.

Micaella, Circle of Fashion’s VP Podcast, said “WEIRD I bet it’s not as puffy and fluffy as other puffers” (referring to the sculpted puffer from Khy’s second collection).

This line of puffers are a collaboration with Entire Studio—a brand known for their eye-catching outwear. Entire Studio’s puffers usually sell for $670—a pretty fair price for a puffer.  collaboration with other well-known fashion brands and experts, might ensure better quality than her previous clothing collections.

To the question of whether she would buy these puffers, Joah[1] replied: “It depends… not particularly this drop because it is not my style, but because Khy is collaborating with different designers, each drop one might be really good”.

Rachel says “Looks cheap, probably feels like it too, given the Kylie swim debacle”.

A quick recap for those who aren’t aware of the scandal: In 2021, Kylie launched a swimwear line that went viral on Tiktok for its poor quality—mostly because of its poor quality stitching,  being see-through and, in general, being uncomfortable to wear. Following the backlash, the brand Kylie Swim discontinued their line, and their Instagram account has not been active since June 2022.

William thinks that “Black leather and Rick proportions on uppers are extremely played ‘atm’ [at the moment]”

I agree with this statement. I think that what Khy is offering isn’t new, and can be found for similar quality, albeit cheaper, from brands such as NAK-D, SHEIN or ZARA. Many said that they do not think that this line is representative of Kylie’s style, and that she is just following the Rick Owen trend. On the COF’s Instragram  story, we polled students to see whether they thought  Khy reflected Kylie Jenner’s Style.  67% of respondents answered  “No”, whereas 33% voted “Yes”.

Ines thinks that Khy is “going to run out of style in 2 months”.

I also agree with this;  this is often the case when a celebrity creates one brand after another. Kylie Jenner’s brands are especially reflective of this— to “hop” on a particular trend, and not think about clothes that will not run out of style.

Rachel M. says “Meh… another “Karjenner” [Kardahsian-Jenner] brand that doesn’t feel worth its price”.

Kylie Jenner already owns(or has previously owned) brands including Kylie Cosmetics, Kylie Skin, Kylie Swim, Kylie Baby, Kendall and Kylie and Glow Beverage. This list isn’t exhaustive; it goes on.. This also raises the question as to how she has so successfully managed to put out so many brands: Many of my friends [include their names here] pointed out that if Kylie Jenner wasn’t the creator of these brands, many few people would buy them.

Our Instagram poll questioned whether, with unlimited money, our followers would purchase Khy’s products.  56 McGill students said they would not , and 8 people said they would.
