As spring approaches, fairy tales of this year’s Met Gala begin to dance in the minds of fashion fans everywhere. The theme for the 2023 event is Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, which will pay tribute to the revolutionary yet controversial designer behind Chanel and Fendi. According to Vogue Magazine, attendees should dress in honour of Lagerfeld in an attempt to illuminate his undeniable contribution to the fashion world. Guests will have the opportunity to choose from his vast archives at Chanel, Fendi, Chloé, Balmain, Patou and his eponymous brand to bring the designer’s legendary pieces to life once more. However, (as we avid Met Gala viewers know), guests tend to stray from the theme more often than not. Will attendees go for that hallmark Lagerfeld quilted leather or bouclé tweed? Or will this theme inspire other ideas for designers and celebrities alike…

Let’s talk Lily-Rose Depp – our favourite nepo-baby. If this French-American actress and model looks like she was born to wear Chanel, that’s because she was. Daughter of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis says that her first memory of wearing Chanel was “probably when I was still in diapers”. Depp’s personal and creative relationship with Lagerfeld throughout the years is undeniable. Lily has already rocked hundreds of Lagerfeld’s designs at runways, red carpets, and events, but most notably she has already showcased some of his most gorgeous pieces at previous Met Galas including in 2016, 2017, 2019, and 2021, pictured above.

Will Depp be able to top her infamous Chanel looks for the Karl Lagerfeld tribute?

Perhaps Depp will pull from the archives with this shimmering glitter baby blue Chanel Spring 1997 Couture or the princess pastel two-piece ballgown from Chanel’s 1999 Spring/Summer Haute Couture show. Whatever the Chanel princess chooses to wear, we know it’s guaranteed to showcase her signature simple elegance and genuine beauty.

Below, I’ve charted a few more Met Gala 2023 predictions ranging from classy 90’s glamour to 2000’s elegance that are sure to blow you away. Hopefully stars pull inspiration from Chanel’s gorgeous archive and give us some unforgettable looks.
