Everyone’s favorite Sex and The City character—at least mine—took to Jacquemus’s Instagram page to announce the date and location of the brand’s Spring 2024 show. A giddy Kristin Davis appeared on camera as she put on gloves to delicately open her invitation, which was not a card but a gray sweater. She ironed and folded it in a typical Charlotte York style—a reference to her character’s mannerisms and personality. The last clip is the Jacquemus sweater tied around her shoulders, going hand in hand with Charlotte’s preppy and aesthetic style.
Therefore, it wasn’t a surprise when Davis, looking fabulous, appeared at the show adorning a cream-yellow suit and matching bag à la Charlotte York on January 29th. This was Davis’s first appearance at a fashion show since the Sex and The City episode where Carrie Bradshaw stumbled on a runway in front of the entirety of New York.
Jacquemus’sSpring 2024 show was featured at an iconic fashion venue, unlike two years ago, when the show took place at wheatfield. Les Sculptures was held at Fondation Maeght—a modern art museum in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, France founded in 1964, which showcases 13,000 artworks today.
Unsurprisingly, A-List models walked the show: Gigi Hadid, who opened Les Sculptures, has been a Jacquemusregular since her famous hair flip moment during the show in 2020. Others, such as Emily Ratajkowski, Amelia Gray, and Vittoria Ceretti, also appeared. Model Deva Cassel, daughter of Italian actress and model Monica Belucci and French actor Vincent Cassel, also walked the show. Over the last few seasons, Cassel’s career has skyrocketed; she is now an up-and-coming model.
Many of the show’s outfits included box-cut, wide-puff sleeve tops—giving the models a Roblox-y look. The clothing varied in color, from the brand’s typical beige to gray, black, and occasionally, red. Mona Tougaard’s red mini-dress and Andreea Diaconu’s cheetah print jacket were two of my favorite looks.
Long dresses were also of the sort; models appeared wearing garments in different shapes and sizes—a testament to Jacquemus’ creativity and skill. The dress was like Davis’s suit: flowy and silky but covered in plumes.
Cinched and cropped waists also seemed to be in big black belts, wrapped around pencil skirts and blazers, as seen on Emily Ratajowski. They look perfect for a corporate job, although the high couture is somewhat unrealistic.
The crowd was star-studded, with dozens of other celebrities in attendance. Actress Julia Roberts was spotted sitting beside rapper Jack Harlow, sporting a sleek all-black suit. Kylie Jenner was accompanied by her young daughter Stormi, who, at the age of five, has already been to more fashion shows at the age of five than I ever will. Jenner also leaned into “coquette core,” decorating her heels with two simple but classy bows.
Overall, Les Sculptures didn’t disappoint; the models’ looks complemented the museum’s beauty and aestheticism. Moreover, the show’s photographs align perfectly with the museum’s statues in the background— a subtle but creative choice on the photographers’ part.
Following the show, I’d like to think that celebrities flocked to La Colombe d’Or to debrief the show’s highlights over vegetable baskets. If Julia Roberts would have me, I’d gladly munch on carrots and discuss Jacquemus with her any day.
